What are the ELAC positions and responsibilities?
DELAC Representative
As a DELAC Representative, you will help make sure that the voices, ideas, and needs of Alianza’s English Learner families are heard at the school and district level. You will attend three monthly meetings and have the opportunity to vote, share information, and make recommendations on behalf of Alianza ELAC.
1. Alianza ELAC Meeting
At our monthly Alianza ELAC meeting, you will:

Learn about programs, services, and supports for English Learners.

Discuss topics such as attendance, ELPAC, academic support, and other English Learner needs.

Participate in discussions and vote on ELAC matters.
-
Gather information and feedback from other ELAC members to bring to the other meetings.
2. Alianza Governing Council Meeting
At the Alianza Governing Council (AGC) meeting, you will represent Alianza ELAC by:

Sharing updates and important information from our ELAC meetings.

Reporting on topics discussed and recommendations made by ELAC.

Sharing the ideas, concerns, and suggestions of Alianza ELAC members.

Making recommendations and voting when appropriate on behalf of the ELAC group.
3. DELAC Meeting
At the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) meeting, you will represent Alianza ELAC at the district level by:

Sharing information and updates from our Alianza ELAC meetings.

Bringing forward questions, ideas, and recommendations from Alianza ELAC.

Learning about district programs, services, and supports for English Learners.
-
Bringing important information from DELAC back to our Alianza ELAC so our committee can stay informed and involved.
Why Your Role Matters
As a DELAC Representative, you are a voice for Alianza’s English Learner families. Your participation helps create a strong connection between our families, our school, and the district. Your voice and vote can help ensure that the needs of our English Learner students and families are represented.
DELAC Alternate
As a DELAC Alternate, you will support our Alianza ELAC representative and help make sure our English Learner families continue to have a voice at the district level.
When the DELAC Representative is unable to attend a meeting, you may attend the meeting in their place and represent Alianza ELAC. Depending on the needs of the committee, you may also share the responsibilities with the DELAC Representative.
Your Role May Include:

Attending DELAC meetings when the representative is unavailable.

Representing the ideas, questions, and needs of Alianza ELAC.

Sharing information from Alianza ELAC with the DELAC committee.

Bringing important information from DELAC back to Alianza ELAC.

Working together with the DELAC Representative to support our English Learner families.

Participating and voting when serving as the representative, as permitted by DELAC procedures.
Why Your Role Matters
Your support helps ensure that Alianza ELAC always has a voice at the district level, even when our primary representative cannot attend. Together, the DELAC Representative and Alternate help keep a strong connection between Alianza families, our school, and the district.
Voting Members
Voting Members are ELAC members who have the opportunity to vote on important matters related to our English Learner students and families.
Your Role May Include:

Voting to approve ELAC meeting minutes.

Voting during ELAC elections.

Voting on recommendations, proposals, and other items that require a vote.

Helping make decisions and recommendations that support the needs of our English Learner students and families.

Sharing your ideas and perspectives during meetings before a vote takes place.

Your participation helps ensure that English Learner families have a voice in decisions that affect their students. Every vote helps our ELAC work together to support student success and strengthen our school community.
What is ELAC?

El Comité Asesor para Estudiantes del Idioma Inglés (ELAC) está formado por familias y miembros de la comunidad que se unen para apoyar el éxito de los estudiantes multilingües.

Si una escuela en California tiene 21 o más estudiantes que aprenden inglés, debe de tener un ELAC (Comité Asesor para Estudiantes del Idioma Inglés) en funcionamiento.

ELAC existe para que la voz de las familias inspire cambios que ayuden a los estudiantes multilingües a alcanzar todo su potencial.
